Solihull's ice rink is Planet Ice on Hobs Moat Road, open all year. Birmingham's Christmas rink opens 5 November, Warwick Castle 21 Nov, the NEC 5 Dec.
The quick answer: Solihull has a permanent ice rink, Planet Ice Solihull at 119 Hobs Moat Road, B92 8JN, open all year. There is no pop-up Christmas rink listed in Solihull town centre for 2026. For a festive skate, Ice Skate Birmingham returns to Centenary Square from Thursday 5 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027, Winter Funland at the NEC has an indoor rink from Saturday 5 December, and Warwick Castle’s open-air rink runs from Saturday 21 November.
Is there an ice rink in Solihull?
Yes. Planet Ice Solihull on Hobs Moat Road is one of the 14 rinks Planet Ice lists on its find your nearest rink page, with the address 119 Hobs Moat Rd, Solihull B92 8JN. It runs public skating, lessons and parties all year.
The catch is that Planet Ice publishes session times and prices only inside its online booking calendar: you pick Solihull, the activity and a date on planet-ice.co.uk, and the times and prices for that day appear. Its old per-rink web addresses no longer work, so check the calendar rather than a search result. Its Ice Card membership costs £19.99 a year and takes money off each skate.
For October half term, Planet Ice’s group-wide holidays page lists offers from 23 October to 2 November: four people skating for £40 on weekday daytime sessions (skate hire not included), a £10 Halloween Skate on weekday evenings and an unlimited half term pass at £50 for Ice Card members, £60 for everyone else. They are online-only and only on sessions given those names, so check that Solihull’s calendar carries them on the day you want.
Is there a Christmas rink in Solihull town centre? Not this year, as far as anyone has announced. Solihull BID’s 2026 events diary lists only its Festive Feast (15 to 22 December) after the food festival, and visitsolihull.co.uk’s November and December listings carry no rink. If one is announced, we will add it here.
Ice Skate Birmingham, Centenary Square
Ice Skate Birmingham is back in Centenary Square, Broad Street, B1 2EA, beside the Big Wheel, from 5 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. It is closed only on Christmas Day.
- Sessions start on the hour, 10am to 9pm, and last 45 minutes. Arrive 30 minutes early to collect skates. The site gives two opening times, 10am and 11am, in different places; the box office opens at 11am.
- Skate hire is included. Socks must be worn. Lockers cost £1.
- Children must be at least 3. The price page says under-7s must be with an adult; the FAQ says under-8s, so plan on the stricter one.
- Wheelchairs are allowed on the ice, accompanied.
| Ticket | Standard: 4pm to 10pm and weekends | Off-peak: 11am and 3pm sessions, Monday to Friday |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | £14.00 | £11.50 |
| Junior, 12 and under | £12.00 | £8.93 |
| Student, with ID | £12.50 | £11.00 |
| Family (2 adults and 2 children, or 1 adult and 3 children) | £45.00 | £40.00 |
| Family of 2 (1 adult, 1 child and a skate aid) | £25.00 | £16.00 |
| Penguin skating aid | £5.00 | £4.50 |
The table also shows cheaper early bird prices (adult £9.50) “until Thursday 31st October”, but 31 October 2026 is a Saturday, so that line looks carried over from an earlier year. Check the price at checkout. Groups of 12 or more get a discount, and there are limited New Year’s Eve tickets. The rink is next to Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market, which runs 5 November to Christmas Eve; see our Christmas markets page.
From Solihull, the train to Birmingham Moor Street or Snow Hill and a walk across the city centre is easier than parking near Broad Street.
Winter Funland at the NEC
Winter Funland in NEC Hall 5, Bickenhill, runs from Saturday 5 December 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027, closed on Christmas Day, and calls its rink “Birmingham’s largest Christmas ice-rink”. You cannot buy skating on its own: the rink comes with a four-hour Winter Funland ticket (3.5 hours on 2 and 3 January) that also covers the rides, circus and stunt show.
From its FAQs:
- Skating is for ages 4 and up, and everyone skating signs a waiver on site.
- Each skate is capped at 20 minutes, but you can join the queue again.
- The rink closes 30 minutes before the end of each session for cleaning.
- Parking is booked separately with the NEC.
Tickets are £35 an adult or child aged 3 and over, £137.50 for a family of four, plus a booking fee. Session times, sensory sessions and everything else are on our Winter Funland NEC page.
Warwick Castle open-air rink
Warwick Castle’s ice skating page says skating runs from 21 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, on an open-air rink on the East Front.
| Ticket | From |
|---|---|
| Ice skating only, 45-minute slot | £8 |
| Castle entry and skate | £18 |
Skate hire is included and booking is essential. Skate aids cost £5 at the rink, first come, first served. Bags are not allowed on the ice; the cloakroom is £2, card only. Arrive at least 15 minutes before your slot. Parking charges apply for skate-only ticket holders.
Which one to pick

Getting there and parking
Planet Ice Solihull is on Hobs Moat Road, B92 8JN. For Birmingham, the train is the easy option; for the NEC, book parking with the venue before you go. Our parking in Solihull page has the town’s car parks, and roadworks and travel has anything closed on the way.
This page will be updated as rinks publish their Christmas session times. If you know of a rink we have missed, email hello@thesolihullpost.co.uk.
